Robert Plant – Two Coats
The four songs on “All That Glitters…” were originally headed for the next Saving Grace album, and one of them almost wasn’t “Two Coats” at all.
Saving Grace is Robert Plant’s folk and Americana project with vocalist Suzi Dian, drummer Oli Jefferson, guitarist Tony Kelsey, banjo and string player Matt Worley, and cellist Barney Morse-Brown, formed on the Welsh borderlands in 2019.
Their debut album came out via Nonesuch in September 2025. “All That Glitters…” is the four-track companion EP that follows it, first pressed to a limited vinyl run of 3,500 for Record Store Day in April and now getting a wider digital release October 9. Along with “Two Coats,” the tracklist runs the traditional “The Blackest Crow,” Gillian Welch’s “Orphan Girl” and Bert Jansch’s “Poison.”
“Two Coats” is a traditional song closely tied to Ralph Stanley, and one Plant and the band have been playing live since Saving Grace started, long before this recording existed.
As Plant put it, “it’s a great Ralph Stanley song”.
